"Champions aren't made in gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them: A desire, a dream, a vision. They have to have last-minute stamina, they have to be a little faster, they have to have the skill and the will. But the will must be stronger than the skill."
Muhammad Ali
Cecile Serrano is a registered occupational therapist (OTR) and a board certified biofeedback specialist. She holds a Master’s degree of arts in occupational therapy and a Master’s degree of science in clinical psychology.
For 15 years she has been an OTR (foreign and domestic trained) and a therapist using cognitive-behavioral techniques to help people with pain, stress, anxiety, and trauma. Mrs. Serrano has practiced in various hospitals, clinics, countries and states, giving her a unique experience and an understanding of cultural differences and pathologies. She speaks fluent Spanish and French and has an extended knowledge of providing care to a bilingual population suffering from diverse pathologies.
In 1998, she started specializing in chronic pain syndromes, like fibromyalgia, using BFB training, combined with counseling and manual therapy, at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco. There her mentors were Dr. Tony Hughes and Dr. Eric Peper, biofeedback researchers and clinicians. She focused on pain and stress/anxiety management for adults and children.
Once in New York City, Mrs. Serrano continued to practice pain and stress management as she trained to treat ADD/HD, autism and some learning disabilities using neurofeedback and biofeedback training. She learned from Dr. Vincent Monastra, well known for his clinical work and research in neurofeedback training with children and adolescents, and from working with Susan Antelis, a biofeedback specialist with children, on the board of AAPB.
In New York City, Mrs. Serrano added another specialty to her repertoire: the treatment of pelvic floor dysfunctions for men and women (urinal and fecal incontinences, vulvodynia, vaginismus , chronic constipation) using BFB training, therapeutic exercises, relaxation techniques and counseling. She learned from Elise Stettner, a recognized expert in the field.
Mrs. Serrano works closely whithin a network of other clinicians including: gastro-enterologists, neurologists, osteopathes, colorectol surgeons, physical therpapists, homeopathes, acupunctorists, neuro-psychologists,psychiatrists and holistic physicians.
Mrs. Serrano is a member of the Association of Applied Psychology and Biofeedback (AAPB) and an active member of the NRBS.
